About This Item

What is The Scoundrel®?

The Scoundrel® is a “red blend” wine. This popular style of winemaking combines at least two varietals to create a delicious wine, full of flavor and freshness.  Juicy, bright fruit, and soft, sweet oak make a lovely glass of wine. It’s a perfect wine for casual dinners or barbeques out on the patio – so go ahead, have a party, and bring out The Scoundrel®

Vintage Notes

If you’re going to dance with Mother Nature, remember she always leads. – a wise Napa Grape Grower

2018 was a seamless season of heavenly hang time and phenomenal phenolic development. February saw abundant rains, followed by lots of filtered light in spring and early summer. Both bud break and flowering occurred a bit late, but under ideal weather conditions, creating plentiful and even fruit set. Summer brought generous sun during the day and cooler marine influences, virtually uninterrupted by major heat spikes. The relatively mild summer followed by extended fall sunshine and moderate heat created near-ideal conditions for winemakers to allow their fruit to accumulate flavor complexity with gradual increases in sugar levels. Volume is looking great, up 20%-30% increase over average crop quantity.

Tasting Notes

The blend consists of two of our favorite varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Together they deliver an inviting bouquet of chocolate covered cherries, nutmeg and cinnamon. The palate is soft and plush with dark berries, chocolate, a liquid velvet texture, and a very long and satisfying finish. This wine, with its wonderful balance, way over delivers on price and matches almost any palate. Perfect for a variety of fare from light to heavy or just to enjoy on its own!
