APPELLATION – Sierra Foothills
VARIETIES – Syrah
Machler Vineyard is located in the Sierra Foothills wine region noted for warm, high-altitude terroir that is well suited to the production of ripe, red wines such as Syrah. The vineyard sits at 2000 feet above sea level. The rocky soils on the property force the vines to dig their roots deep into the ground to find water and nutrients, and the end result is often small yields of grapes with intense, concentrated flavors. Warm, sunny days are followed by much cooler nights as a result of the breeze off New Melones Lake that blow down in the evenings. This temperature variation allows grapes to ripen evenly, leading to the development of pigments, retention of acidity, and complex aromas.
