Sauvignon blanc, Yountville, Napa Valley

Mello Vineyard is the source of our Sauvignon blanc grapes.  Located two miles from the winery in the Yountville appellation just north of the city of Napa, this small vineyard sits on the valley floor, in soils including gray clay loam and some gravelly sand.  The Yountville location endows it with a generous layer of morning fog that gives way to warm afternoons of sun, perfect for complete ripening of the fruit.  Proximity to several small local hills known as the Yountville Mounts guarantees vineyard exposure to the cool marine breezes off San Pablo bay (a northern part of San Francisco bay) that sweep up the Napa River, into the valley every evening.  Those hills slow the breeze, trapping cooler air and keeping our temperatures lower than the northern end of Napa Valley.  This coolness preserves the lively acidity which makes this wine so refreshing, and these optimal growing conditions produce the unique flavors of our wine.
