2014 Bell Cabernet Sauvignon, Omonia Vineyard, St. Helena, Napa Valley
Item No. 2204 | Out of Stock - Ships in 2-3 Business Days

This single vineyard wine showcases delicate, earthy, exotic bouquet of lavender, dried eucalyptus leaf and rose petal. A rare treat, this Cabernet doesn’t need a food pairing because of its delicacy, but would do well with roasted duck or lamb.

2014 Bell Cabernet Sauvignon, Omonia Vineyard

Vintage Notes
For the third year in a row, Napa Valley experienced an exceptional vintage and near drought conditions.  Though the drought continued to concern us throughout the growing season, between 11 and 17 inches of rain fell in the critical months of February and March, coming at the right time to provide the necessary water needed for a fairly smooth growing season.  The warm winter resulted in an early bud break. July’s relatively low temperatures were coupled with high humidity during the summer, heightening rot and mildew concerns.  The relatively cool summer slowed down sugar accumulation to achieve perfect ripeness at lower sugar levels. The growing season provided numerous challenges – our third consecutive drought year, the South Napa earthquake in August, and late season hail.  Our harvest started about two weeks early, the earliest since 2004, with vines yielding loose clusters of small, intensely flavored berries.  The resulting wines have deep color, rich fruit flavors and a wonderful, supple texture on the palate.

Tasting Notes
Our 2014 single vineyard 100% Cabernet from the Omonia Vineyard in St. Helena shows a beautiful fall bouquet of dried leaves, candied blackberry, potpourri, cassis and graphite. The palate is as earthy as the nose and as elegant as a great Bordeaux.  A soft and supple texture carries along sweet black fruit, molasses, black tea leaves, mocha and a slight oakiness in the finish. A beautiful wine to drink on its own, the tannins are so smooth and integrated that you don’t need the traditional steak to cut the dryness – it is perfect all by itself.
