2012 Bell Cabernet S., Napa Valley, Reserve - 1.5L
The 2012 growing season in Napa Valley was about as perfect as it could be for grape growing. An abundant grape crop gave winemakers the opportunity to take only the best fruit. Our mild spring led to a pageant of spring bud break, steady flowering, and even fruit set. A long stretch of summer days that grapes love - wide temperature swings, from the low 50s at night to the mid 80s during the day - gave them a chance to ripen slowly and evenly. Light rains held off until after the grapes arrived on the crush pad. This vintage will certainly be remembered as one of the very best ever for the Napa Valley.
The 2012 Reserve Cabernet is deep in color, with a lovely ruby edge and rich, ripe fruit aromas. The wine opens up with classic Bordeaux aromas of cassis, granite and black currant. On the palate the wine has a plush texture, reflecting the beautiful integration of ripe, dark fruit and smooth, refined tannins. The finish is long and persistent, with flavors of sweet fruit, nutmeg, black pepper and cigar box lingering on the palate. The wine’s layers of complexity reflect the diversity of Napa Valley’s many microclimates. Crafted in a rich, concentrated European style, this wine pairs well with flavorful, full-bodied meals, and will develop a harmonious smoothness with age. Excellent today, the wine will also reward those with the patience to cellar it.
