"The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Malbec, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, shows a nice, spicy earthiness, a touch of tobacco leaf and underbrush, medium body, excellent fruit, sweet and light tannin with an attractive finish. I can’t put my finger on it, but the wine has a certain Provençal aspect to its characteristics, perhaps the slight herbaceousness. Drink it over the next ten years."

"With a perfumed nose of rose and toasted oak, this wine is thick in red fruit, dense oak and a welcome undercurrent of bright acidity that helps keep it fresh in the glass. Small amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec are all within." - VB

"This wine sources fruit from throughout Napa Valley, as well as 9% from Lake County and 1% from the Sierra Foothills, incorporating all five red Bordeaux varieties and a smidgen of Syrah. It's juicy in black currant, with a tension of acidity and a smooth, simple focus, aged in both French and American oak." -VB

"Big, upfront flavors mark this Cabernet, providing big blackberry, black cherry, mocha, vanilla and toast notes. It’s very dry, tannic and a little aggressive at this time. It could develop bottle complexity over the years." — S.H. (12/31/2012)

Connoisseur's Guide to California Wine, August 2010

"Here is another nicely crafted wine from Bell. Its curranty, briary varietal aromas are met by enriching notes of roasted vanilla and a bare whiff of green olive and are followed on the palate by a full-bodied, fairly supple wine with attractive flavors that echo all that has gone before. Tannin tightens the wine towards the back and asks a half decade of cellaring.”

"This young, vigorous Cabernet is full of ripe, upfront fruity flavors, yet it's dry and complex, and is grounded by a pleasing tug of herbaceousness. Most notable is the rich blackberry, raspberry and currant fruit, and the way the sweet, smoky oak complements it. Drink now for freshness."

"Bell's basic Cabernet often is a good buy, and the 2005 certainly falls into that category. It shows polished Napa structure, with savory cassis and cedar flavors. Drink now through 2011."

"The grapes come from the best communes of south-central Napa, and most of the barrels were new French Oak. The Cabernet is blended with a little Petit Verdot, Cab Franc, and Merlot. The wine itself is soft and plush, with a velvety mouthfeel framing dry, ripe blackberry, cherry, and cocoa flavors. Drink now"

"A good wine, but lean and herbal for such a ripe vintage. The dominant flavors are of sage, tobacco and coffee, accompanied by some tough tannins. The finish turns tannic and gritty. Try aging, but it's a gamble."

Colorado Wine News, Jan - Mar, 2003

"The Cabernet was aged for 23 months in French oak. It has earth, black cherry, rhubarb, and earth plus moderate, smooth tannin. The finish is long and medium-broad and has a touch of alcohol at the end. Nicely balanced, integrated, and structured."
